A five-year-old boy has died in hospital after he was stabbed during a domestic dispute in Sydney this morning.

The incident occurred at a home in Carlingford, north-western Sydney, around 7am.

Emergency services were called to the scene where they found the child with stab wounds.

He was taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, but later died.

A woman, aged in her 60s and believed to be his grandmother, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for shock.

A 36-year-old man, who is known to the boy, was arrested by police and taken to Castle Hill Police Station.

Two crime scenes have been established — one in Moseley Street, where the paramedics were called to, and another home on Paul Place, also in Carlingford.

Investigations are continuing and police urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
