More than a month's worth of rain could fall over Western Australia's North West Land Division during the coming days.

A cold front and low pressure trough passing over the Indian Ocean will produce widespread rain, blustery winds and thunderstorms as they cross WA this week.

Wind, rain and thunderstorms will increase over the state's western districts from tonight and spread further east as the week progresses.

These systems will affect all western, central and southern districts in WA, although unlike most rain-bearing systems at this time of year, the heaviest falls will target the state's northwest.

Parts of the Central West, Gascoyne and Pilbara districts could see more than 50mm of rain between Monday and Thursday, with isolated totals possibly exceeding 100mm. This would be more rain than this region usually receives during all of June, with this type of soaking more common during summertime, amid monsoon-driven downpours.

Further south, Perth and nearby areas of the lower west coast could see 20-50mm of accumulated rain during the next fours days, possibly more if thunderstorms move directly overhead.

A severe weather warning for damaging winds and heavy rain was current on Monday morning for parts of the Central West and Gascoyne districts, and this warning area is likely to be expanded further east during the coming days.
