Regardless of the 0-0 result, the Champions League clash between Sevilla and Manchester United was a thrilling affair, with the highlight of the match coming at the end of the first half when Red Devils keeper David De Gea made an astonishing save to deny Sevilla striker Luis Muriel.

Two schools of thought emerged on social media almost as soon as the save was made; firstly, that the Spanish keeper's intervention would go down in history for its brilliance, and secondly that Muriel had absolutely botched a gilt-edged chance.

Even if you are in the latter camp, there is no denying De Gea did well to keep the shot out, and he had an all-round excellent showing in a game where Sevilla troubled Manchester United's defence on a regular basis.

Thanks to the Spanish goalkeeper, and a slice of luck, Jose Mourinho's side will go into their home leg at Old Trafford in three weeks' time with a slight advantage.

United themselves played some expansive football, and were also unlucky not to find the net, particularly through giant Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku.

Muriel was gracious enough to acknowledge De Gea's great first-half effort, though he may have been feeling a little sheepish that he wasn't able to guide the ball into the corner of the net from such close range.

In the day's other game, Shakthar Donetsk came from behind to beat AS Roma 2-1 in freezing conditions in Ukraine.

Youngster Cengiz Under opened the scoring for the Italians before the hosts took the lead in the tie thanks to goals from Facundo Feyreyra and Fred.
