I AM writing in response to the article printed on the front page of the Sunraysia Daily (February, 10, 2018) titled “Show of Heart”. As a regular visiting Cardiologist working in the Sunraysia district for 10 years I was disappointed with inaccuracies of the article. While I think it’s great there is a new clinic coming to the region, and I agree all rural centres need growth and development in general and specialty medical care, the one subspecialty that Sunraysia patients have always had easy access to is cardiac care.

I was a medical registrar at Mildura Base Hospital in 2006 before beginning my training as a cardiologist. Having completed my specialty training in Melbourne, Adelaide, Darwin and my subspecialty training as an interventional cardiologist in Vancouver I feel I am well placed to comment on cardiac care in both metropolitan and rural settings.

Firstly I refute the statement that “people with cardiac issues just couldn’t access the services and support they need locally”.
