FOOTAGE of a young girl crying tears of joy as she unwraps her first gun has sparked horrified reactions from social media users.

The video was uploaded in January last year but has recently resurfaced in the wake of the Florida school massacre, fuelling the furious debate about gun laws in the US.

In the video, the 10-year-old girl named Presley is tearing open a present given to her by her parents.

She clearly recognises the packaging and immediately becomes emotional. Adults can be heard in the background of the video encouraging her to continue opening the weapon.

“Oh my goodness, this is crazy, oh my, I can’t breathe,” she says.

Presley squeals with happiness and bursts into tears as the opens the case, revealing the 686 Silver Pigeon shotgun inside.

At the time the video was used by weapon maker Beretta to promote their products on Facebook, describing the girl’s reaction as “touching”.

“She opens the Beretta box. Her reaction will make you cry,” the post reads.

“A touching video sent by Presley’s parents, shows the emotional moment when she realises she finally has her very own 686 Silver Pigeon. It’s what we call #BerettaJoy.”

The footage is once again being shared around social media, with outraged users dubbing the video “disturbing” and “disgusting”.

“Honestly one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen! Those people should be ashamed of themselves,” one Facebook user wrote.

“Clearly what every little girl needs. Something to kill with. Charming,” another said.

One added: “I hoped till the end it was a guitar, a keyboard, a snowboard, ANYTHING ELSE. But, hey, you’re right: who would waste his time teaching kids something smart when you can give them weapons and teach them how to kill?”

But there were number of people who hit back at the flood of shocked reactions, claiming there was “nothing wrong” with gifting a child a gun.

“I don’t see any problem with her learning how to be responsible with a gun at a young age. That’s what I was brought up from, and so will my kids if they want to,” one person commented.

“All of you saying that this video is disturbing are complete idiots and you just don’t have a clue! There’s absolutely nothing wrong with raising kids to respect and enjoy firearms,” another user said.

One added: “Come on guys. It’s not one of those scary AR-15’s. Just a little hunting rifle made of wood. Good for her.”
