Sydney: A man has allegedly attacked several poker machines with a hammer and meat cleaver at a Sydney club.

The pokies were extensively damaged when the 60-year-old man went on a rampage with the two weapons at Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club on Sunday morning, police say.

The man was arrested, with police seizing a hammer and meat cleaver from the yard of a nearby unit on Sunday.

The man was charged with destroy or damage property and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and is due to face Burwood Local Court on January 18.
