A woman stands accused of assaulting and kidnapping her elderly mother in a "disturbing and somewhat bizarre" incident linked to the ongoing fallout of her relationship with a former high-flying stockbroker.

Royalene Pollock, 68, suffered a suspected broken rib and facial cuts after she was allegedly bashed and tied up by her daughter, Lauren Pollock, in the older woman's Cherrybrook home about 3am on Sunday.

Hornsby Local Court heard on Monday that Lauren Pollock, 37, and Afghanistan war veteran Daniel Mark Cupples, 39, are alleged to have kidnapped the elderly woman and taken her back to Pollock's home at Naremburn.

By 5am, the victim was taken to a home in Mosman where she raised the alarm to a resident, but only after allegedly being told by her daughter to go inside.

Lauren Pollock's ex-partner, former BRW Rich Lister Phil Mathews, lives in Mosman.

Lauren Pollock and Cupples, who is alleged to have played a smaller role in the crime, were arrested on Sunday afternoon and charged with the assault and kidnapping.

Magistrate Daniel Reiss heard on Monday that the "troubling" incident was linked to an ongoing dispute between Lauren Pollock and her former partner, who split in 2014.

Solicitor James Leaver, for Lauren Pollock, said his client was battling her "exceptionally wealthy" ex-partner and there was a "dynamic going on in the background which is extremely sordid".

Mr Leaver said the former rehabilitation counsellor had a "history of depression and anxiety as a result of the previous relationship".

In opposing Lauren Pollock's bail application, police prosecutor Sergeant Jacob Roussos said investigators had located duct tape at the victim's home and cable ties and gloves at Lauren Pollock's home.

"It is clear from the facts that this is a very strong prosecution case [and] that the offending is very serious," Sergeant Roussos said.

Mr Reiss refused Lauren Pollock bail but did release Cupples on strict conditional bail.

Interim apprehended violence orders protecting Mrs Pollock and Mr Mathews have also been granted.

The pair will reappear in Downing Centre Local Court on February 6.
