Heavily armed police have uncovered a former drug lab at an abandoned property in regional NSW as they work to solve the mysterious death of a former Rebels bikie found dead in the back seat of a luxury car.

Ricky Ciano, 35, was discovered in the back of his BMW on the side of a road in Oberon on Valentine's Day, 2017, a day after his family reported him missing.

Dramatic raid on NSW property

A drug den is found during the investigation into the death of former bikie Ricky Ciano.

He arrived in Sydney on a flight from the Gold Coast, where he had been living, on February 11 before picking up his car at airport parking. He told family and friends he was going to visit his daughter.

His wife last heard from him in a text message at 8.20pm on February 11.

Nearly 10 months on, police were still working to understand what he was doing in the Oberon area and how the drug that killed him got into his system.

Following tip-offs from members of the public, police identified an abandoned farmhouse that they believe Mr Ciano attended in his final days.

The riot squad, bomb squad, police divers and chemical operations members of the drug and firearm squad swooped on the Harris Road property on Tuesday, which they believe Mr Ciano may have visited the weekend he died.

A search of the home revealed it had previously been used to produce cannabis and methylamphetamine, police say.

Vision released by NSW Police showed police searching the home and a dam on the property. A number of items were seized but police would not elaborate on what the items were.

"Based on what we found there, we are confident there are people who know more about Mr Ciano's death," Detective Chief Inspector Jason Dickinson said in a statement on Friday.

"Our inquiries are very much ongoing, and we are determined to provide answers to Mr Ciano's family, so we urge those who have knowledge of what happened at Oberon to contact police."

The 35-year-old, who survived an attempt on his life in 2015, had been living on the Gold Coast after severing ties with the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang that year.

Police have previously said Mr Ciano died of a suspicious lethal drug overdose and they haven't ruled out murder.

He said police had an "open mind" about what had happened to Mr Ciano.

"The circumstances as we know them today cause us concern," Detective Inspector Dickinson said.
