Shaun Davidson seems unconcerned by reports police are closing in on him on the border of Indonesia and East Timor. Picture: Facebook

BALI fugitive Shaun Davidson claims he is nowhere near the border of Indonesia and East Timor, where police have launched a new search for him in the past 24 hours.

Davidson, or somebody with intimate knowledge of him operating his numerous Facebook accounts, has taunted authorities repeatedly during more than 10 weeks on the run.

In a private messsage purportedly sent from Davidson to news.com.au just after 11am this morning, he claimed he had left the country for fear of getting shot by local authorities.

“Them still thinking I’m in Indonesia is the best thing for me so they can keep looking and thinking I’m there, I’ll only be shot if I get caught inside Indonesia by Indonesian police and resist arrest none of those things will happen, I’m not Indonesia so thier police can’t and when and if ever Interpol come knocking I’m not gonna resist I’ve never resisted arrest (sic),” the message said.

“The charges in Australia I don’t have faith in the system to hand down proper justice (a not guilty verdict) the courts will believe one police officer over evidence from someone with a criminal history even if the evidence proves not guilty or if there’s no evidence to prove guilt if I wasn’t going to be deported to face the awall system in perth I would never have escaped and I’m sorry to the Indonesians for that I just want to live the rest of my life happily I’ve retired and arnt doing anything that affects anyone else badly I’m living a normal life in a new place and am happy doing so (sic).”

Earlier today, he sent news.com.au another message which said: “It doesn’t bother me what Ppl believe or not when I post something true no-one believes it when the police say things not true Ppl believe it it’s very entertaining that I can post my locations for real and everyone believes it’s not real including police haha.”.

Davidson had been asked to respond to claims by Bali police that his associates, and not he, were controlling his Facebook pages, which have featured him “checking in” from countries as far afield as the United Arab Emirates, Holland and as of this morning, Barbados.

“Afternoon training session” he posted alongside a map of First Fitness Gym in Oistins, Barbados at 3.30am (AEST), followed by “Dinner time I’m starving” with a map of Cafe Luna Barbados at around 10am (AEST).

The 33-year-old has been the subject of an international manhunt after he and three fellow inmates tunnelled out of the notorious Bali prison in a dramatic escape on June 19.

The search took a twist this morning with Bali Provincial Police Chief Petrus Golose revealing authorities believe Davidson is still in the country.

“The Australian has not yet (fled out of country) and is still in Indonesia,” Inspector Golose told AAP.

“(He is) the focus of a search on the border between Indonesia and Timor-Leste.”

As NewsCorp’s Bali correspondent Cindy Wockner reported last week, Davidson could have been a free man today had he not staged his brazen escape.

He was serving a one-year sentence after being convicted of using fake documents, including another man’s passport.

Two of Davidson’s fellow escapees were captured in a five-star hotel in Timor-Leste — not far from where the current search is under way — after just a few days on the run and have been denied sentence remissions for next year.

However the Australian and Malaysian national Lee Kok King have so far managed to elude arrest.
