AFTER all those years of living in the White House, jetting around in Air Force One and hanging out with Beyonce and Jay Z, it turns out Barack Obama is just like us.
Photos have emerged of the former US president, with wife Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia, doing the typical tourist thing in Australia’s favourite holiday destination — Bali.
A highlight of the 10-day family trip to Indonesia so far appears to be a rafting adventure on Ayung River in Badung, where the Obamas could be seen navigating the rapids wearing the same daggy yellow safety helmets we have to wear, and having the time of their lives.
They also checked out the Jatiluwih rice terraces, a major tourist attraction in Tabanan, in Bali’s north.
Bali is the latest spot on the Obamas’ post-White House world tour, an extended holiday that has also seen them visit the Virgin Islands, Tahiti and Hawaii.
They will also spend time in Jakarta during the Indonesian leg of the trip, a city where Obama Barack lived for a few years as a child.
But the typical touristy sightseeing is pretty much where the Obamas’ Bali holiday stops resembling our own.
While we usually stay in Seminyak villages we booked with a Cudo voucher, the Obamas are shacked up in the $7,500-a-night RoyalVilla, a palatial three-bedroom, three-storey residence on the grounds of the Four Seasons Resort Bali in Sayan, Ubud.
It’s the same luxury residence where Julia Roberts lived while making the film Eat, Pray, Love.
